Canada’s juggernaut artist development platform and boot camp The Shot is getting (at least) two new judges and a new host for the 2019 edition. The Shot has announced that Shane Christopher Neal and Jennifer Beavis will join the judging panel and Sam Cook will emcee the competition series’ upcoming 7th season.

Neal and Beavis are replacing Micah Barnes and Danya Dixon and will join executive producer C.J. Allen, Jessie T and Blair Packham in judging the talent. Cook takes over hosting duties from Brad Moore.

“One of the many secrets to the success and longevity of The Shot is its fearless drive to reinvent itself,” said C.J. Allen, Executive Producer and judge. “The next evolution of the format brings in fresh expert eyes … and ears … to join Jessie T, Blair and myself on the panel and an amazing personality with Sam joining us as our new host.”

Allen also teased the possibility of still adding a sixth judge to the panel adding, “We decided a long time ago that we weren’t going to limit the number of voices that could sit on the judging panel. It’s a brand new season. We have some exciting changes happening including hosting the entire season in Toronto for the first time so you never know. There are still several conversations happening and if we think that a sixth judge would elevate the experience for the artists and create value for their development and growth, it’s something we would seriously consider doing.”

Radio, TV and event host Neal is the co-founder of BS LIVE ROCKS Music Entertainment Group and has interviewed artists, music insiders, and industry professionals and is also a host/moderator for for Canadian Music Week, Indie Week Canada, and Niagara Falls Music Awards.

Beavis has worked for over twenty-five years in music publishing with roles that have included working at multi-national publishers BMG, EMI, and famed Vancouver-based independent record label and music management and publishing firm, Nettwerk Productions. Beavis has also been the executive director of the Songwriters Association of Canada and has served as a board member of the Canadian Music Publishers Association, the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Canadian Country Music Awards.

Cook started her career interning for “The Late Show with David Letterman” in New York City.  Upon returning to Canada, she co-hosted the popular 90’s television show “UHOH!” which aired on YTV (Canada) and Discovery Kids (USA).  Sam is also a well-known radio personality hosting shows on major market radio stations in Toronto – Kiss 92.5FM, Energy 95.3FM and Country 95.3FM.  As a voiceover talent, she has worked with prominent clients including Virgin Mobile, Sony Music Canada, Much Music, Cineplex, Honda, Oprah Winfrey Network and the Canadian Country Music Awards.

“Shane and Jennifer are exceptional in their fields. Their backgrounds, expertise and the passion they share with the rest of the panel for discovering and supporting up-and-coming talent make them an awesome addition to The Shot family,” Allen added. “As the judges’ new partner in crime, Sam Cook is going to electrify the stage with her wit and unending charm.”

THE SHOT has undergone a number of changes and developments over the years, particularly the decision to open the competition to anyone age 16 and over from anywhere in the world, but this year's latest may be the biggest yet. The Shot has continued to be Canada's fastest growing platform for aspiring talent, but amid the rise of other singing competitions — both independent and televised, the show has had to adapt its format if it's to keep up its success. Last year's installment

David Boyd Janes is on a mission: to bring country music to Toronto.  As City Boy Country, David's energy and enthusiasm for his music was evident the moment he walked into the audition room and carried him into the finals of Season 5.  Having just returned from recording in Nashville, we asked David about his experience with The Shot and what's next for this passionate performer: What was your favourite part of The Shot?  What did you take from doing it?  How did

Singing auditions, especially in front of judges who are critiquing your performance, can be a harrowing and nerve wracking experience.  Despite the butterflies and uncertainties, The Shot tries to make auditions as much of a pleasant opportunity for contestants by promising constructive criticism and feedback no matter what the result.  For those preparing for their audition or perhaps for those still thinking about auditioning for Season 6, coach and judge C.J. Allen - the veteran judge on the panel - offers
